Must-have Postpartum Items:
A carefully curated selection of postpartum care items that are honestly life changing.
I have created a list of my non-negotiables because as a first-time mother, sifting through the available postpartum care items can be confusing at the best of times and indignant at the worst.
Ive been there.
I remember asking, “What will I use this spray bottle for?” (it begins with peri and ends with neum), “I'll be bleeding for how long!?”, “Do I really need that girdle?”, “Why must I measure the diameter of my nipples for so-called flanges and what is a flange?”.
Then, after having my baby, it quickly transformed into one big realisation with deep, resounding gratitude that I had friends who anticipated and helped me organise a selection of items that proved to be a god-send.
I hope these help you as they’ve helped me.
The Bare Essentials Care Kit - $79.90 - Available at The Memo.
This was the first thing that went straight into my hospital bag, it provided comfort in those first few tiring days after birth. The kit comes in a variety of sizes with a perineal wash bottle, reversible postpartum briefs and a warming/cooling insert that was something I could not highly recommend enough. Available with vaginal birth or c-section options.
Labour Aid Oil - $22.95 - Available at MALO.
This little hero was one of the first products I concocted, my grandmother always used cinnamon scented massage oils on me and my sister to lull us to sleep and it was something I knew I would need to help soothe my nerves during labour.
I also formulated it with clary sage for increasing oxytocin, known to ease stress and pain. Post labour it quickly became a part of my nighttime routine and I take it with me whenever I fly for its therapeutic, calming properties.
Kontext Lana Bathrobe - $329.95 - Available at The Lab Organics
It is the moment, it is pure luxury, it is an investment and it is like the most reassuring, loving, comfy hug. This? You definitely NEED. Made from 100% cotton in Japan, I can not begin to tell you how useful my lana bathrobe was but as soon as I slip it on, a spa-like serenity washes over me.
Bundl reusable nursing pads - $38.65 - Available at Bambino
These nursing pads are Australian made wonders, they keep you dry, comfortable and never feel cold or annoying like disposable breast pads. Best thing is they are reusable so you never run out!
Hatch Head Peace - $80 - Available at Babe Bump and Beyond
A compressing and cooling head wrap, it relieved my pregnancy headaches but I still use these til this day. The best thing is it sits comfortably that in no time you’ll forget you are wearing it and hardly notice when the throbbing subsides.
